West Coast Athletics

On Wednesday it was the West Coast Athletic Sports. I got through from school then I qualified at the Grey Districts so that's how I got to West Coast. 

I got through in every event except for discus. 

 First we had to walk down to the park from school.  The 1000m long dist was the first event but I didn't do that. Next we had the bye and after that I did high jump which I came 3rd  in. Then we had the 80m sprint which I came 2nd in. Then I done the 50m sprint which I came 2nd in. After that I had to do 2 relays, one for the year 5 and one for the year 6 teams.

 At the end of the day we walked back to school just in time to go home.

My results were:

 3rd in high jump,

 2nd in 80m sprint

 2nd in 50m sprint

So I got two 2nd's and one 3rd so I am through to Canterbury in the sprints.  I am nervous but excited for Canterbury! 

   

Maths Reflection

WALT: Apply our maths strategies to real life word problems-

This week for maths we have been doing problem solving we had to show out working ours the one that I found tricky was the green box because I had to do division.  

Learning Mandarin

Last term my class got to learn mandarin with Emma.She came every Wednesday.We started with some easy words/phases and then went on to some harder ones.I liked this because we got to learn a new language. Here is my work!
 

Writing to Describe

 This week for writing we have been writing about a picture. We had to choose to be one of the characters in the picture or the  person taking the picture. Here is the picture that I wrote about.  Who do you think I am being?

Finally the day was here, I can't take it anymore.

He was lonely and scared. It wasn't fair he was in the cold, raining, stormy weather and he couldn’t stay inside because he was too big.  I put him on the the leash and took him home. It was really hard for me, I thought that the tears would of come out but they stayed in. I was tired at 5km into the walk. I wished he was smaller so I could fit him into the car as the 10k walk was so hard. I had to pull him the whole way. He was lazy!

I talked to him the whole way.  It felt like every time I said I will miss you he got sadder. I looked up and I could barely see through the fog. When I walked into the zoo all I could see was two  Giraffes staring at me. At that point I knew that it was the parents. Tears ran down my face, some happy, some sad. I put him in the gate and took him off the leash. I knew that I could come and visit any time so I said goodbye to my yellow and brown spotted friend .

Fraction Knowledge

This term for maths we have been learning fractions.  In this task we had to choose a fraction and then show it in a variety of ways.  I liked this task because there are heaps of different  ways to show fractions on it. Maybe next time I could show the fraction shape in a different way or challenge myself with using an improper fraction or a mixed number.

What is a Fairy Tale?

This week in library time I have been finding out about fairy tales. First we had to find a fairy tale in the library.  This was not easy because we looked in the fiction section of the library.  They are actually in the non fiction section.  Once we had found one we had to work out what made it a fairy tale.

I really thought that this task was fun because even though I had read fairy tales before I hadn't thought about what made them a fairy tale. Next time I could put more information in to it.  What do you know about fairy tales?
 

Fairy Tale Setting Map

This week we have been learning about fairy tales. Each group got a fairy tale and my group got Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. First we listened to the story and identified the different settings throughout the story.  Then we had to make a map of all of the settings and number each in the order they appeared in the story.  

I found this activity fun because we got to draw.  Next time I would probably put more detail in my map so people could use it to tell the story.

What is Nessie?

This week we have been looking at mysteries in our world.  The mystery we are looking at first is the mystery of the Loch ness Monster.  First we were given a piece of writing that describes what witnesses think the monster looks like.  We had to draw then we had to find out what it was. Next week we are going to investigate if it is real.  Do you think it is?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

Prediction Poem

The one and only Ivan

This week we have been reading The One and Only  Ivan  book. We had to make a poem predicting what we thought the story was going to be about.  All we had was the chapter headings to make the poem from.  I really liked this activity because we got to work in groups. My favourite bit about my work is the poem.

Addition and Subtraction using Place Value Partitioning

Maths week 4 

This week for maths we are learning about problem solving with addition and subtraction. The strategy we are focusing on is using place value partitioning. This is an easy strategy to use.

Book week

This week it was book week. I dressed up as Wilmer (wheres wally girl) I had lots of fun looking at all the different classes doors. our class door was based on a book called Winnie the witch and our class the best door competition I had lots of fun dressing up I cant wait till next year...
